—Conference Overview—

Choirs: Submitted recordings will receive blind adjudications by 5 choral music education experts in middle school choral music, members of the 2018 Conference Steering Committee. Materials due: August, 2017.  For details, see Choir Audition Submission Form. 

Chapter One of the Virtual Conference Documentary will include synthesized, but unedited, HD video recordings of the selected choirs’ performances.  Negotiated performance dates: April-May, 2018.

  • Choirs close in proximity of the Denton, Texas will present their concerts in Voertman Hall, University of North Texas, on Saturday, May 5, 2018.  Concerts will be video recorded in HD, and the public will be encouraged to attend.  
  • Choirs from distant regions will be asked produce a HD concert video recording at a pre-arranged, mutually agreed upon location, April-May, 2018, and the public will be encouraged to attend.
  • Concert recordings will be synthesized to create a multiple-concert document.

Interest session presenters will be selected by a panel of 5 choral music education experts in middle school choral music, members of the 2018 Conference Steering Committee. Materials due: October 1, 2017.  For details, see Interest Session Submission Procedures.    

Chapter Two of the Virtual Conference Documentary will include interest session presentations by leading authorities in middle school choral music from across the United States.  Similar to the choir procedure, selected presenters will arrange to produce a HD video recording of their interest session in an easily accessible and mutually agreed upon regional/university facility.   Audience is optional.  Anticipated completion:  May 2018

Chapter Three of the Virtual Conference Documentary will include interviews with the experienced MS teachers/conductors from the four MS/JH National Conferences.  The goal of the interviews will be to determine the sequential steps taken by these teacher/conductors to develop a successful choral music program at the middle school level.  Pre-determined interview questions will offer comparable responses. Anticipated completion:  May 2018 

Chapter Four of the Virtual Conference Documentary will include interviews with middle school administrators associated with successful middle school visual and performing arts programs.  The goal will be to document why and how these administrators choose to value strong choral music programs in their schools.  Pre-determined interview questions will offer comparable responses.  Anticipated completion:  May 2018 

Chapter Five of the Virtual Conference Documentary will include materials and supplies targeted specifically for the middle school classroom. The commercial music business community will be invited and selected to create a virtual booth video specific to their wears for the middle school choral music educator.

All five chapters of the Virtual Conference Documentary will be available on the Cambiata Institute web site, offering a teaching resource for teachers, college methods classes, students, parents, administrators, the music business community, and all interested parties.  Anticipated completion:  June 2018   Anticipated availability:  For years to come!
